This is the most complete version available (just over 93 minutes) as this movie was demanded by Bram Stokers widow to be destroyed after winning 2 lawsuits in the mid & late 1920's. Tinted scenes and beautiful quality. I have seen the current version here at archive.org and decided to post this one as it is of much better video quality and the accompanying music matches the scene incredibly better. Enjoy this classic horror with the very creepy Max Schrek as the (IMHO) best vampire ever to waltz across the silver screen.

An unauthorized production of Bram Stoker's work (The legal heirs didn't give their permission), so the names had to be changed. But this wasn't enough: The widow of Bram Stoker won two lawsuits (1924 and 1929) in which she demanded the destruction of all copies of the movie, however happily copies of it were already too widespread to destroy them all. Later, Universal studios could break her resistance against this movie. Count Orlok's move to Wisburg (Obviously the real "Wismar") brings the plague traceable to his dealings with the Realtor Thomas Hutter, and the Count's obsession with Hutter's wife, Ellen the only one with the power to end the evil.

A Symphony Of Horror
A long time ago in middle Europe, a decrepit, forbidding castle stood... Casting an ominous shadow over the townspeople who dare not look upon it, the unholy dwelling is home to one Count Orlok (Max Schreck) , an undead night creature with a taste for human blood.
Into this picture steps Hutter, an unwary traveler who visits the Count. He carries with him the deed for a property Orlock wishes to buy in Hutter's home town of Wisborg.
That night, in preparation for the long sea voyage ahead, the vampire hastily loads his coffin aboard ship and waits...
Once at sea, Orlock bares his fangs and upon arrival in Wisborg, leaves behind a floating morgue. Now, preparing to feast on the citizens, the cadaveous Count, prowls the darkness as the eerie Nosferatu.

I LOVE NOSFERATU!
i've seen different versions of this, but not this version! LOVE the extra scenes! title cards 2.
with that said: ditto to what every1 said about the music! ive heard way better then this! & yeah ellens "voice" where she cries out with the doc by her side should not of been there! that was awful even laughable.
but again love this longer version!

Matt's Hot Spot presents: Nosferatu rant
I downloaded this film in hope to get a copy of Nosferatu, colored or should I say tinted, but I hate the titles. I can not read them. And I liked the wording of the titles in the black in white version, but I hate seeing day as night. The blue does look good. The moaning in the music was ... unexpected. But the singer's singing during the credits gave it eerie feel to the opening titles. But if only someone can take the tint from this download and add the titles from the other version. production company
The production company is actually Prana Films and no Universal Studios,because it's a German film, you can find that in Wikipedia.( I finally saw the moment that Ellen says "why you killed those flowers?" I couldn't see it in other versions, thank you!!)

The way the film itself looks is pretty close to the original German version...
I do agree with you on the music, Awful! Glad I've got the "(The Ultimate Two-Disc Edition)", that includes the original score.

Just Awful!
Besides being under copyright, this is the worst version of Nosferatu my eyes have had the misfortune of seeing. This is far from a "restoration" and is actually a "redo." A bad one at that!
The intertitles are bright green and in cursive. I can understand including intertitles which were previously missing or lost, but they have added words or changed sentences entirely from the original intertitles.
Tinting which is normally subtle to convey time of day, the difference between inside and outside, or emotion is completely over done. It is not pleasant viewing. I describe the tinting as Crayola Yellow instead of Sepia, Deep Cinnamon Red instead of soft pink. Dennim blue like when you mix 1/8 cup Mrs.Stewart's Bluing to one gallon of water instead of a nice soft blue.
A period soundtrack would have been nice. Having a woman moan on the soundtrack while Nina sits up from a frightening dream was just pathetic.
I give 1 star for the "restoration" as it completely ruined the movie, otherwise it is an excellent move. I want to thank the person who uploaded it though, I now know I will never buy a film from Kino. There are far better and cleaner public domain versions. I think this one is the best http://www.archive.org/details/nosferatu

Kino DVD rip. Still under copyright :( You can see copyright notice at the end of the movie. I think it's about restoration and new music score. I know this film is brilliant, a true masterpiece, but a copyrighted version shouldn't be avalible on IA. There are other versions of Nosferatu here, and they are Public Domain. Maybe not so complete and true to the orginal, but free for all. And for film itself 5 stars!

Nosferatu-Dracula
I have always wanted to see "Nosferatu". Fragmented versions of it circulated in the 60's during the Underground Film era. I watched this version which seems complete with fascination. Bram Soker's original vampire character, Dracula, was a deal more complex than either the Max Schreck or Bela Lugosi versions. Read the book.
Willem Dafoe does a crdible job of recreating the Schreck version in an otherwise forgettable movie,"Shadow of the Vampire" which was made around 2000.

I loved this movie. Creepy dark and the makeup was great. The facial expressions and body language by Hutter and his wife and Hutter's boss were almost as creepy as Nosferatu himself. I am so glad that this film wasn't destroyed. It's a classic and I give it a 5. Thank you for it.
